BALAKLAVA BLUES is an etno-rave set in the middle of the war-torn Ukrainian steppe. Video from the front lines of the Donbas war, footage from mine shafts, factories, and fields, and iconic Soviet cartoons form the backdrop for remixed folk songs by Counting Sheep/Lemon Bucket Orkestra creators Mark and Marichka Marczyk.

A couple named WAR (Marichka Marczyk) and SOLDIER (Mark Marczyk) guide you through this complex visual expression of the Ukrainian psyche, and glimpses of life on the front lines of the current Ukraine-Russia conflict. Celebration, regret, obligation, fear, anger, introspection, and surprise weave with industrial synths at this unusual party.

Mark and Marichka Marczyk are the recipients of two Dora Awards, a Scotsman Edinburgh Fringe First Award, and an Amnesty International Freedom of Speech Award.
